Lens flare occurs when light, from the sun or other source, enters the lens at an angle and aligns with the camera’s digital sensor. It creates a polygon-type shape that forms around the shape of the lens itself. Photographers generally try to avoid lens flares within their images by using lens hoods, though some photographers use the effect to artistic advantage.
